Pauojoungie Saggiak’s art journey began when she lived in Cape Dorset, Nunavut. During this time, she became captivated with Arctic wildlife, particularly birds. This inspiration culminated into the very wildlife drawings that she is renowned for today. Largely self-taught, her work is characterized by fluid, sharp lines. Saggiak seamlessly integrates diverse colour palettes across her work, going between bold, vibrant, and playful to earthy and muted. With such an intimate understanding of Arctic wildlife, her depictions of birds and other animals is often dramatic and raw, an impression that is heightened when done in coloured pencil, her preferred medium.
